LASeR is a standard dedicated to improving and making efficient Rich-media applications and services on mobile devices. The LASeR specification leverages numerous rich-media applications and services requesting client-server interactivity, updates and dynamic high-availability of content. The following applications are sample services that can be realized using LASeR.

Advance Mobile TV services: (video centric applications)
This category of application includes : Video portal, Music browsing and download, Video and/or audio news subscription.

For this kind of applications, subscribers can watch TV, video and audio enriched with additional data (graphics, text, images) in streaming, online, progressive download or offline mode. Dynamic updates are available on the fly and can be provided within the same stream or by pushing updates offline (i.e. for adverts).
Content can be synchronised up to a frame-accurate basis (e.g. to ensure content providers and operators that voting will start and stop at a precise time during a vote within an interactive show, to allow karaoke text flows) on any kind of networks (3G, edge, 2.5G, DVB-H).

Advanced Navigation services: (text centric applications)
From portal to specific services, LASeR offers a convenient and natural way to browse rich-media services: no latency, easy web-like access (content available in less than three clicks, easy discovery, no learning curve), permanent push to update content in background (news or dedicated services), progressive download to visualize data as soon as possible, switching from unconnected to connected services, rich font support are some of the benefits of LASeR for this kind of applications.

Advanced location-based services: (graphics centric applications)
Location-Based services are key applications for mobile users. LAseR can leverage maps application thanks to its technical features:
Loading a map in memory and requesting for driving direction: alerts of traffic perturbation in real time thanks to partial updates, pre-empting on users request to provide him with the best quality of service thanks to progressive download. Managing data in memory: be connected for a long while with no saturation of the terminal, storing new data in memory, deleting old ones. Positioning additional information on the maps: video preview of the museum intended to be visited, nearby friends met through a meeting service and located with GPS data.
